CITY CANVAS CARDS

This deck of cards pushes people’s artistic boundaries by allowing them to express their creative freedom through a list of tasks that revolve around street art and graffiti.

This project is important to me because I often have a hard time taking risks in my design work, and I know I am not alone in feeling this way. I wanted to create something that could help people step out of their comfort zone that could also be used to get out of a creative rut.

Abstract:

Something that struck me in the Camden Canal was the graffiti. It is uncurated art on display, a true representation of the people who live there.

Inspiration: Camden Canal

To begin to explore this topic, I created a manifesto to challenge myself and others creatively and push us out of our comfort zones. I completed the first task on the document itself by allowing others to draw on the manifesto.

A Manifesto:

I created a postcard with graffiti on the front and one of the tasks on the back. This gave me the idea to put the tasks on playing cards to be more accessible to the public and because they have an alternate purpose.

An Experiment:

Over a few weeks, I had my friends and family do one or two tasks and recorded their reactions. This supported my ideas on why this project is important; to push people out of their comfort zone in a fun and creative way. It also showed me that when doing these tasks, some people have a line moral line/ comfort level that they will not cross.
